Iggy Peck, Architect

Written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts. Published by Abrams Books for Young Readers in 2007.

Iggy is stylish (check out the chucks and black jeans) and clever. Iggy uses his architectural skills to save his classmates and teacher from being stranded on a tiny island. Copper admires Iggy.

Rapunzel: A Groovy Fairy Tale

Retold by Lynn Roberts and illustrated by her brother, David Roberts. Published by Harry N. Abrams in 2003.

This is the second of three books by Roberts and Roberts. The first is Cinderella: An Art Deco Love Story. Rapunzel is set in the city in the 1970s and stars Rapunzel, her long red braid, her evil Aunt Esme, and her friend Roger, who sings in the school band, Roger and the Rascals. The illustrations include lots of period-appropriate details that Copper doesn’t get, but that entertain his parents.

Little Red: A Fizzingly Good Yarn

Retold by Lynn Roberts and illustrated by her brother, David Roberts. Published by Harry N. Abrams in 2005.

Ginger ale plays an important role in this version of the fairy tale, starring a young boy named Little Red and set in post-revolutionary America. The beautiful illustrations feature lots of historical details, including a chamber pot.
